The family name Menso is coming from the Christian name Mense.
Ds. Menso Johannes (XII) had "Mense" as Christian name.
The family is traced to the 16:th century in the city of Zwolle, in the province Overijssel, in Holland.
In the 3:rd known generation the name Menso was used as family name.
The surname Menso was during the Rhenen period 1688-1874 sometimes spelled "Mensoo".
This spelling was a.o. used by Constantijn Mensoo (1689-1733), Hendrik Mensoo (1711-1780) and Sara Mensoo (1695-?).
Also on the coat of arms from the Rhenen period, with the stone mason hammers, the spelling Mensoo was used.
